Embossing paste... was not too sure what to do... couldn't really make my mind up. But then, when Gay and Gio told me they had struggled a bit with their stencils and embossing paste, I thought I would show you a little tip that I learnt at the Craft Barn (of all places), many moons ago when I was an "eager to learn customer" and not a tutor/employee yet.
It's a very basic technique, which I'm sure many of you know but hopefully will still be helpful to some. There are probably other ways to use stencils and paste but I find this one easy, goof proof and you really get neat results every time. So if you have never tried embossing with stencils and pastes before, or if you have and messed it up sometimes, remember that "it's easy as A, B, C" (you will see why below).
By no means am I an expert at paste embossing, and before I show you my little tip, I wanted to talk about the AMAZING expert at the shop: Carol Cockbain. Stencils and embossing hold no secrets for her, so if you have not done so already, make sure you book on one of her classes (or all of them) and you will be amazed at what can be done with those products.
If you live too far away to attend Carol's classes, you can always get her DVD, sold exclusively at the Craft Barn.

So here we go.
You have the slideshow for the full project below, but I'll show you a few details here...
Tape your stencil (Dreamweaver Heart Lock and Key) in place. First at the top (A), then on the side (B and C). The order is important
"Collez" le pochoir (Dreamweaver Heart Lock and Key) en place avec du ruban adhésif repositionnable. En haut d'abord (A) puis sur les côté (B et C). L'ordre est important
Add the embossing paste using a palette knife
Etalez la pâte sur le pochoir
Now this is the important bit. Bring your card on the edge of the table as shown on the piture. Remove C and B tape, LEAVE "A" IN PLACE as a hinge and lift the stencil slowly with your thumbs.
Material used:
Dreamweaver stencils: Amsterdam Flourish & Heart lock and key
PaperArtsy stamp: Hot Picks 1004
Tim Holtz Easel Die
Hope this was helpful....
See you tomorrow,

This is such a chic project and I am going to have to add another IO stamp to my wishlist, which now stands at 14....:O) Thank you for the tips, I too learnt these at the Craft Barn many moons ago!My problem has always been trying to get the paste on, I either miss bits or it goes all wonky and patchy!...:O) Super project, TFS!
ReplyDeleteLovely page - so elegant. Sometimes we forget the most basic techniques & it's nice to revisit them.
ReplyDeleteLooks great I have never tried it but looks like I might have to spend some money I do have the cover card stamp which is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial, x
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous. I have never tried stencilling with paste, but this makes me want to try - and I have to have that stencil. I foresee a visit to the Craft Barn in my very near future. :)
